Recognizing the value of human life, FINAVAL has adopted the policy that no seafarers, of whatever rank, shall navigate the vessel, operate its equipment, or perform assigned duties if their health and fitness have not been ascertained.
Each process should be assessed in order to establish safeguards against all identified health risks and prevent physical injury and loss of lives.
In the Health Policy the Company has set the following objectives:
TO ASCERTAIN THE MEDICAL FITNESS OF CREW MEMBERS:
Every crewmember shall undergo a medical examination prior to joining any managed vessel. A certificate, or other suitable documentation, shall be a satisfactory proof of compliance with these requirements.
Medical examination should be carried out by a competent Doctor which is employed directly by the Company and who is aware of National health regulations.
TO GUARANTEE PROPER MEDICAL ASSISTANCE:
All ships are required to carry medicine and medical stores as per the minimum standard required by the National Authority.
Always keep medicine and medical equipment in good order and respect expiry dates
Dispense medicine to crew when necessary and refer to the “International Medical Guide” whenever required
Request advice and/or assistance from the nearest ship that has a Doctor on board and from Medical authorities ashore through the nearest coastal radio station, or from CIRM
Apply a verification process, based on DLG 271, HACCP, and other flag health regulatio
TO ENSURE PROPER REST OF ALL CREWMEMBERS:
All crewmembers must always have sufficient hours of rest to allow them to perform their duties in a safe manner in accordance with STCW, EC, and national requirements.
The Master shall ensure that updated logs of shipboard rest / working hours of personnel are maintained in compliance with STCW, ILO Convention, and Italian DLG 271.
